I have now been looking after the website since Sep 2004. Usage has risen 10% from last year. 33 websites have links pointing to CHIS. It now has 930 files (was761) which include
§ 667 images - up 143 from last year- new relating to street lights, Clifton Rocks Railway, Suspension Bridge resurfacing and when the strut broke, parking, some to Sutton House, 99 and 101 Queens Road, squatters in Mortimer House and streetscape
§ 109 word documents- up 40- relating to the weekly planning lists that we now put up, PACT meetings, planning proposal fliers for 101 Queens Rd and 36-40 Princess Victoria Street
§ 148 web pages (same)- more information about street lights, planning, parking, Neighbourhood Watch, Avon Gorge and Downs project
Christmas Day had 397 hits (557 last year)
Streetscape seems again to be consistently the most popular section this year, followed by Clifton Rocks Railway progress and pictures, planning, noise, news, trees, security and plaques. Parking is very popular at the moment due to the residential parking scheme (it is really hard to find details about residential parking on the Council website). Indeed when analysing the responses from members, I got several compliments about the bad parking pictures I put up. Achievements is also in the top 10 possibly due to our 40 year celebration last year. The art trail details were in the top 5 last October. The lamp post saga has continued with more pictures and update to the Council Strategy (a popular document). Cyclist Law page is also popular.
Most people still find the CHIS site by searching for specific topics, committee members, streets, plaque information or pictures. The topics looked for are as varied as ever and one can tell what is causing concern each month. This can lead to putting up more information. Some examples:
- Buildings/locations: Mansion house, Gloucester Row, Victoria Square, Vyvyan Terrace, Windsor Terrace, St Vincent Sion, St Andrews Churchyard, Suspension Bridge maintenance, Hope Centre, Sutton House, Trafalgar House, Boyces Building
- Streetscape: balcony, litter bin pictures, railings, balcony plant, broken pavement, gas light, street lights, cost of new council lamp post, fly poster, porch mural, lion rampart, bad streetscape, benches, door light, lamp in pile of rocks on street
- Planning permission: Robert Smith unit, 17 sion hill, single household, appeal granted for residential external staircase to first floor, grounds to oppose a two storey extension, Guidelines for mobile mast stations, check list for piling works, object overhead telecommunications Act 1984, mansard roof, guest house guidelines, private nurseries
- Plaques: Sarah Guppy, Thomas Guppy, Sir Fabian Ware, Empress Eugenie, Randolph Sutton, Hannah Moore, Rolinda Sharples, how to conduct unveiling
- Trees: cherry blossom, dead tree, oldest tree in Clifton, young pin oak, yew sculpture, bay trees, monkey puzzle, how to prune tall monterey Cyprus, pleached lime, luccombe oak, skimmia, tree sculpture, dating oak and beech trees.
- History: Harley Place, Clifton, Hotwells local history society, Clifton Rocks tunnel, war time railway tours in costume
- Cycling on the footpath fine
- Security: Vehicle Crime team, door to door scams, paving fraud, private security, Squatters, dealing with gangs
- Refuse/pollution: waste collection noise, refuse collection days, noise pollution, diy noise
- Parking: driving a vehicle onto a public footpath, removing parking one side of street, application of yellow lines, parking in front of garages
- Forest of avon walks, Peregrine falcons
So its still good fun, if a bit time-consuming- and I get lots of compliments and requests for help
